Default 351W swap

Hey I am SERIOUSLY considering a 351w swap into my 89 gt(i already got the engine lined up, just need to buy). Anyways, the engine is carb, and I was looking to going the EFI route, and i heard from some other message board that you can use the stock HO wireing harness because it has the same fireing order as the 351. Anyone know if this is true? I am only gonna drop a cam into it and throw it into the mustang, so you think if i watch the clutch drops and no slicks that a 93 t5 will handle it (rebuilt with about 3000 miles)? Also, has anyone ever done the swap before? I heard it was pretty much a straight swap, cept for you have to get certain headers cause th exaust wont line up. Anyways, anything else in general I will apreciate

thanks

yes your efi harness will do , firing order is dictated by the crank and camshaft, not harness , but they share the same firing order . im a lil busy now but i have some articles i will post fo you which go into detail , as long as you dont get all you questions answered .

You will need a conversion lower manifold, conversion motor mounts, a late 70's 4x4 f150 oil pan (or a conversion pan), and a modified stock 5.0 h-pipe widened a little if your using regular 5.0 shorty headers on the 351w, or 351w swap headers. You T5 should hold up find as long as your not launching on slicks and you have a set of gears 3.55 or higher to help get you going. No guarantee that the T5 will last long unless you baby it though.

The project car I am building is a '95 Mustang GT with a 351W; it is MUCH cheaper to get 400-500hp out of a 351 than a 302 if you are building from scratch (like I would be, since the 302 is a total loss). Here is some research I have come up with:

Do a Google.com search for the following topics:

351w swap info, 351 swap magazine reference articles, 351w swap tips and facts

Those searches will provide you with a wealth of information, including parts lists, so you can go into this job properly informed. By the way, I highly recommend changing out the tranny while you are at it; I am going to use a McLeod Industries T-56 6-spd for streetability and fuel economy.I do not know what your spending limit is, but I am taking an out-of-commission car and turning it into a street-style track racer that still looks pretty. My budget is $20,000 over two years and I am planning on spending $5000-7000 on the engine, tranny, and drivetrain.

I heard that you can use the stock 5.0l motor mounts, I have never heard of the conversion ones. I have heard of the exaust problem though, do you think I could modify the exaust to fit the 351 haeders?

I did the conversion and its not that big of a deal. My stock t5 is doing just fine, the stock motor mounts are fine too. I bought the conversion pan, bbk conversion headers, trick flow intake, and everything else from the 5.0 will bolt on. Dont ecpect the stock hood to close if you use the trick flow intake, it isnt even close.
