yes the bushing was bad not the seal.

the seal is just a dustcover really...doesn't seal anything in the tranny.

the tailshaft needs to be removed, and a new one put in

someone just had the same prob last week or so ago...the trans shop charged him $15 i think but he brought the tailshaft in.

all you need to do to pop the tailshaft off is support the trans, remove the mount and unbolt the tail....very easy and quick , then havre yt he tranny shop get a new one in there..it's brass and pressed in it is probably in 2 pieces right now and doing nothing at all.

the new seal you just got will probably be toast too

but they might have one of those too

i just tap them in w/ a large socket and rubber mallet (the seal...not the bushing)

alright, sounds good.

ill prob take it back to the same shop, just for the fact that i know he will work with me.

most shops i go to are dicks and think i know nothing about anything.

im dumbfounded when it comes to transmissions, but im pretty good on most.

i just dont feel like working under the 10' of clerence my POS jack, and jackstands provide me!!!

ok, well im going to call 2-3 transmission places in the morning, and see what they think, grab the parts, and get this done.

.

k just got back from my lunch break.

im pretty sure you shouldent be able to move the driveshaft at all.......

but when i got under the car, i could move it with barley any force.

it wasent a whole lot, and i couldent climb under there, as im in uniform, and wouldent wanna get dirty, but does this mean that my "tailshaft bushing" is bad?

well today i think i fixed it.

turns out when we where pulling everything apart we first noticed the rear seal was stuck to the rear bushing, bushing looked like total ***!

well the only ppl that had them was ford dealerships, and just so happend there where only 2 of them..... IN THE HOLE STATE!

so while pulling down the driveshaft i said "well you guys dident even check the u-joints or anything" he grabs it and starts moving it around and all you hear is "CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK"

so it was kinda a DUUUUUUUUUH moment for everyone.

so the u-joint prob broke on the dyno, (the video where im holding it at 4800rpm for 8+seconds) and in the process tore the bushing to shreads.

the bushing wasent broke, was just worn out, the oil pathways where basically gone, and the hole thing just looked like crap.

took 4 GOD DAMN HOURS to get the bushing there, and once it got there it was a 10min fix.
filled up the fluid, and i babyed the car home.

so far, so good, at the shop they put it in park and reved the car up a few time (not me this time, the mecanics) held it at like 3k rpm for about 10seconds, etc, and it held, drove it home, and its still fine.

i left it at home, and tonight when i get home, ill idle the car and get it up to temp, that way the seals can get some heat cycles in them.

hopefully babying the car for a while, and being easy on it, ill be able to have this thing fixed.

on the way home lastnight, and today to the shop the car was just shaking like CRRRRRRRRAZY, horrible, so much i wanted to pull over, on the way home it was as smooth as could be, so im hoping its fixed.

anybody have any recommendations to breaking in these parts?

i figure stay off the highway for the first 100-200miles, and baby the car, then i can do highway, but dont romp on the car any till after about 500miles.

hows that sound?

so I was right to check the tailshaft bushing??[sm=hail.gif] as for break in period??? just drive it normal.....shouldn't need much of one...if it's gonna break it's gonna break...but just drive it normal and check it for the next few days to make sure you have fixed the root cause
