Default HELP! Overheated

I was driving to school today and my car overheated to 230.[:@] So I shut it off for a while, drove it back home. After that, it was fine, dropped down to 185, and then stayed at 190 when I drove it to school. Could it have been a sticky thermostat? I put on new valve covers, and they are leaking a little bit of oil, so I am going to get new gaskets. What's the problem? Hoses are fine. I have enough antifreeze.

Are you 100% sure it's full of antifreeze? If so then I'd say you nailed it with the thermostat. Could be a couple other things, but most likely the thermostat.

yes it is.. the car was designed to maintain temp at 195 and designed from factory it shouldn't exceed that by that much..if it exceeds factory spec there is a cooling system deficiency..most likely a t-stat in this case

my car runs 210 all day

230 deff isnt normal but he said he overheated at 230F.

overheating to me is hot temperature + mechanical failure.

otherwise, 230 is just running hot

Remove the thermo, stick in boiling water to test. If its not that, Id suspect a faulty fan clutch(if you have one).

It will begin to open instantly then close quickly when removed.

Use all safety precautions while doing so, and do not inhale burning coolant, its a nerve toxin.

he said he overheated to 230 not at..."at" and "to" denote two seperate meanings....overheated to I interpert as not necessarly having a mech failure but running hotter than what factory design the cooling system to maitain temp at..in this case 195......irregardless of what you interpret the word to mean... the car is over-----heating at 230....just because it's not puking it's guts everywhere does not mean it's okay to still drive telling people there car is just running hot at 230 will give them a false sense of security of ohh okay I CAN DRIVE IT A LITTLE FURTHER UNTIL kabooooooooom............I don't drive my ride if it reaches 220 ever cause it always runs at 180...at 220 you'd think I'd suspect a prob
