Default engine rebuild questions

im wanting to start get parts and savin up to rebuild my motor in my 89 gt this winter,im on a budget as well,id like to make it a 347 but im not sure bout the price, and how expensive everything would be to upgrade,i recently saw a 306 kit in summit for like 800 somthin, and i thought that a 302 bored 30 over made a 306,would it be cheaper just to rebuild my 302 and bore it 30 over, would it be the same results?my dad said that the kit in summit was pretty cheap for everything it came with so thats most likely wut ill use,but as far as heads, wut should i use being on a budget, would gt40s work good,or see about gettin my stock ones ported, and also wut about intake would an explorer intake be good?could i get my stock intake ported and gety any good out of that?im just wantin to have more power than i have now,not any big numbers, maybe 250-300 if possible.im gonna have to start savin up for everything thats why im wandering wut route i should go.becuz i want to do somthin it has 188,000 on it and a lifter is makin a lil noise.id like to keep my stock injector size or maybe go to 24s,and i want a better cam, maybe a B or E cam.anyone have any ideas that would help me get started savin up for this.

An good HCI will easily put you in the "250-300" range that you are looking for.......

moat 347 kits are about 800 to 1200 dollars i think, i havent really checked th prices in a while, gt40 heads and intake are good but i think that they arent the best set up for a 347. As for the cam i would get a custom grind cam for compcams, Lunati,Crowler, or some of the other companeis they will set you up with a cam that will make the best power with you other upgrades! But if you are only looking to make 250-300 horses i would just do a head, intake, cam upgrads that will easilt make those numbers! Hope this helped you out a littlle!

if you choose the 347 route..expect to spend alot more as you'll need a combo that'll be taylored for a 347 and all supporting mods..for you if price is an issue the 306 route will be more friendly on the budget/ pocket book and still yield decent power gains.. a good h/c/i on a 306 will produce 280 to 300 rwhp depending on the tune and supporting mods

wouldent the 347 only extra cost be the engine work?

yea, it would be a little more for parts, but the gains you would make would be pretty extreme.

from 280hp, to 350 is a pretty good jump for all motor.

this is the delima im having, 306, and spray? or all motor 347? [>:]

This is not true, the only cost difference on a cast assembly (you don't need forged for this kind of power) compaired to a 306 kit would be approx. $100-200 on the rotating assembly. The boring is the same at .030" and the clearancing you can do yourself with a die grinder. If you talk to Jim atfordstrokers.com, he can get youa good rotating assembly at good price. His kits (Probe)come with detailed instructions on how to measure and clearance the block (if you can read and pay attention to detail, you can do it). If you hadthe machine shop do the clearancing you would be looking at approx.$100-200.

After building my first 347, I'ld never do another 306. My best 306 made 330 hp, my 347 makes 452, and a ton more torque, which a 306 has next to none. Cost is about $700 more icluding a good fluiddampner, which imo a must, and forged parts, which is always a good idea, because you'll get used to the power eventually and want more, and you'll already have the base platform in place to go with boost or spray.

this may be a dumb questin, but whats a "fluid dampner?"

when looking on fordstrokers.com, there "streetfighter" kit says it will support 500+hp, does that mean without boost, or juice?
i want a 347 with good heads, but some where down the road id like to throw some juice, or boost at it....... could the cast ford strokers kit hold up to that?
