RE: just for clarification
you could also put in what tremic and borg warner rather have which is gm syncromesh or royal purple's manual trans stuff i forget what they call it. when i put my new trans in i used atf first and it shifted normal after 2k i changed the fluid and put in gm syncromesh and that made a huge difference. shifted much smoother than the atf

RE: just for clarification
royal purple or amsoil synthetic ATF is what i use
2 3/4 quarts if you fill from the shifter hole, otherwise just pump it in til it comes out of the top full hole...since the last 1/4 qt is wasted anyways....you can pump a few squirts w/ the bottom drain plug out and flush a little out of it...or use a cheap qt of atf and flush that through it.
either way, the metal particles will be on the magnet, but you can clean it a little.
