heres my thoughts...and i know your leaning towards nitrous...but not too set on it yet...also you'll do more later...guaranteed...your bit w/ the bug and your stuck w/ it......so here goes.

i dealt w/ 2 aod cars.... even after i swore i'd never own another after the first. a broken leg forced me into the 2nd..... and i hated that too (both had 3.73 gears)

absolutely i would do a 5-speed, that alone will feel like 75 hp to you just from the gearing.
http://www.ddperformance.com has upgraded t5's for $999 , and you can sell your aod for more than you think to recoup some cost

w/ the misc stuff you need..you'll be in it for clsoe to $1300 i'm sure..tax, shipping, bell housing, clutch pedal etc. (look on ebay for kits...might save money)

KEEP THE AC... trust me i ditched it once.... not worth it, and mine was broke...i should have kept it and fixed it.

so you have an intake already...you NEED heads, 2 ways to go here... my buddy did iron gt40's from a cobra, concentrate on the exhaust, port and polish, clean up the turns in the intakes, and a comp valve job, that will cost you about $700 total (heads and port), but you'll perform better than box stock aluminum heads.... by not going aluminum, you can have enuff for a used nitrous kit.. or other misc stuff.....or just save and go aluminum heads , but do yourself a favor and port them too... you can double the performance of any good head for less than $500, you can find very very nice used ported aluminum heads for $1200-$1500 , if they have been done by a real shop, your basically getting the port work free, don't buy heads froma shadetree mechanic who might have screwed them up, it can cost more to fix them than just have them ported. too much is bad....guys port too much and lose all the velocity for volume...then the car is slower

so bottom line...i say :
t5 swap
iron 40's and port them
extra set of wheels w/ mickey's

do that and you'll run 12's , my buddies car w/ those heads + 125 dry shot went 11.80's on a '92 GT full weight (launching on full slicks at 5k and yes...he broke 2 axles b4 upgrading...cheater slicks on 3k launch won't break them though)

biggest gains for the $$$ w/out nitrous, you have room to upgrade, you got the higher cost heads out of the way, you can still squirt a 100 on it whenever you want, you'll probably feel like you added 150 hp to your existing combo

but thats just my opinion

very very good points bob.
you always speak from experence, and dont shoot from the hip, i like that.

my motorcycle is going to be my DD during the summer, and a manual would be better when i have to deal with snow, considering i could prob leave a light in 2ed gear (maybe 3rd with 4.10s )

i have 4.10's already, so the gearing would be way high with the T5.... idk how that will work out

my buddy and i was talking yesterday about this, he said if i spent $1500 on getting a manual tranny, i would gain prob 15-20hp from switching from the AOD, lose weight, and it would be "funner" considering i could launch harder, and dumping the clutch at 5k rpm in second gear at 20mph, and holding the throttle to the floor is always fun for rolling burnouts [:-]

as far as the heads, i was kinda set on aluminum, for the weight savings (vert=fat fox) but idk, the cost is high

we also talked that if i did the manual, i could just do the 100shot with stock heads, my only fear is that at 5400ft elevation, and stock heads, the 100shot isent going to make a hole lot of pwer.....but i could be wrong, idk that much about NOWWWWZZZ

what are your thoughts on this?
