If you are talking about the cable that goes the throttle body to the drivers side of the tranny, that's the TV (throttle valve) cable. If you drive the car without it being hooked up, you can fry the tranny in just a mile or two!. The throttle valve controls all of your shift points, and applies pressure to lock up the clutches and band. The pressure increases as the throttle is opened, applying more clamping force and reducing any slippage. There should be a device on the throttle body that the cable hooks to. The plastic cap on the end of the cable snaps onto the pin on the throttle body, and a clipholds the outer cable to the throttle body. If you can manage to hook it up correctly, drive it and see what happens. I think the damage is done though.

i can safely say it's toast.

you have 3 options imo

c4, t5 swap , or lentech aod

price them..weight the options and go from there , make sure you understand the aod and it's gearing/setbacks b4 you decide to rebuild your current broken one. and you won't get out of it for less than $2000 on what u have. i promise you that , the converter alone is $500

aside from another aod what would be another simple bolt-up? Would a c4 bolt up or would a lot of stuff have to be swapped/modified. Also what kind of vehicles can I find these trans in? Sorry but I am new to the whole mustang thing. Probably just get a j/y trans if someone can recommened a good auto trans that will bolt right up and what I can find it in.

look at a good c4 they aren't too expensive, and pretty basic boltin , but they are 3 speeds...no overdrive. it'll be like driving in "d" all the time 1:1 ratio

anyways, i don't reccomend a boneyard tranny either.

imo best bet is a t5 swap, your car will have much more torque from superior gearing compared to the aod , it'll feel like at least 75 more hp

I'm going C-5 (with aC-4 valve body and bell housing)when my AOD takes a dump. Cheaper and stronger than the AOD. Mine is not a daily driver, so it will see no freeway miles. I have a AOD in my Son's F150, with a 4R70W lower gear set, Alto red clutches, kolene steels, kevlar band, A+ servo, and a Trans-go shift kit (I've got about $1200 in it with the converter, but I did a lot of the work myself). It's the 3rd AOD we've had in the truck (seems to be working OK after 3 months). That's always an option if you want to keep the overdrive, and have a better 1st gear ratio. Bottom line, they're just not a very good transmission for a performance vehicle. I've said it 100 times, you can build them to handle power, but it takes more $$$ than aC-4 or C-6.C-4 is also much lighter, and will allow the use of long tube headers. If you are just building a street rod, there's nothing wrong with a quality rebuild on a AOD. I didn't catch what year you have?, but if you're going to stay with aAOD, make sure your shop uses an89 or newer, or at least use an 89 and newer valvebody. The 89 and newer valve bodies eliminate the need for the 3-4 accumulater valve, and it's a better set up. Good luck.

Go with a 5 speed- you wont regret it.
I just had my POS AOD swapped out for a T5 and it makes the car alot more fun to drive.

C-4s can be foundon many ford vehicles, from the mid to late 60s through the mid eighties, behind small blocks and 6 cylinders (stay away from the FMX). I can't answer what it takes to convert one, because I've yet to do it. If you do a search on this forum, you should find plenty of information. Don't rule out the C-5 (that's what I have), it has better lubricating qualities than the C-4, and can be converted to a C-4 by usinga C-4 valve body and bellhousing.Good luck.
