RE: Rebuild cost$$
i basically paid for parts since i rebuilt it mostly on my own, i had a friend just supervise for the most part with a little help on the side and pitched him a couple bucks. if you have the time and resources i highly suggest doing it on your own or with help....
highly satisfying to do something yourself and then you have no one else to blame if it breaks. haha. i feel better doing everything i can on my own.
otherwise i assume that most places would charge shop rate which is like 50-60 dollars an hour or something and i bet it'd run your parts and labor like 2k or 2.5k~ ish
but i have no idea for sure, just guessing

RE: Rebuild cost$$
I just priced having my 300 six rebuilt by a reputable shop last year. They quoted me $1800 including parts, for a stock rebuild. I shopped that price around, and couldn't find anything much cheaper from anyone around here with a decent reputation. I ended up buying a good kit (re-ground crank, silvolite pistons, clevite bearings, hastings rings, cloyes timing gears, Fel Pro gaskets) and had the shopjust prep the block and heads (clean, bored .060, install cam bearings, press on pistons, re-work the head). If I remember correctly, the kit was around $400 and themachine shop bill was around $600, and I assembled it myself. Include all of the miscellaneous stuff (I installed a Comp Cams 260H cam & springs, along with a Demon 525 carb), and for less than $1500, I had a slightly modified motor, built to my standards and I know exactly what went into it (runs like a bat out of hell too!). It's still cheaper to buy a short blockfrom a reputable builder, butI had atough time finding one that builds six bangers.

I would also suggest doing the work yourself... its not very difficult just as long as you have the right information. Cost wise I think I spend somewhere around 1k for parts and block work and I got a little work done to the heads , and all the information is out there in the internet.. tho I dont have any links....and its ALOT more satisfying to say that "you" rebuild the engine yourself.

RE: Rebuild cost$$
Any reputable machine shop will cost around $600 to fully machine the block. Balancing the rotating assembly will cost $150-300 or more if you go with an internal balance. New pistons will cost anywhere from $150-$500 or more. A cheap gasket kit will cost $100. New bearings and rings cost $100-$150. Assembly will very a lot based on machine shop labor rates but expect no less then $400. If you want new heads and a cam then add that into the cost.

all depends on the power level you desire vs reliability
