Pulling the motor, what should I upgrade/replace?
Due to a massive oil leak (not sure where from), I'm pulling the motor and tranny this weekend. The motor has 103k miles on it. I have a long list of items to do to the engine while it is out, but I need your input on a couple things:
1) I'm replacing the oil pan gasket, should I replace the oil pump and/or any part of the oiling system?
2) Timing chain and gearset: What part # do I use for the Cloyes kit? (C-3057X or C-9-1138)? Or suggest other (please include part #)
3) Motor mounts: Should I replace? If yes, do I go with the Prothane/Energy Susp. or stock?
Thanks for the help!!!

RE: Pulling the motor, what should I upgrade/replace?
1) 1piece oil pan gasket.
not unless something isnt working you dont have to replace any of it.
2)i really dont know on part number but go with a double roller if you're buying a timing chain
3)i would replace since you're in there anyways, one less thing to worry about unless they are basically new. i would say prothane but it depends on application i think. what type of car is this going to be?
anyone think any different please correct me if im wrong

RE: Pulling the motor, what should I upgrade/replace?
I wouldreplace the freeze/expansion plugs in the block. They're cheap, and you don't want to have to replace them with the motor in the car (like I need to do). I would also replace the water pump while the motor is out.

Thanks guys for the input!
FLcracker9...the water pump was just replaced by the previous owner about 1300 miles ago.
FastBlack...mods include:
New headers, midpipe, and catback, 3G alternator upgrade, Mark VII fan upgrade, smog pump delete, underdrive pulleys, rear main seal, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, PCV, EFI sensor kit M-12071-N302, oil change, coolant change,
spark plugs, Goodyear Gatorback fan belt, distributer cap and rotor, ignition coil, spark plug wires, oil pressure sensor, thermostat, freeze plug replacement, clean and paint transmisison and motor, and finally...advance the timing
Debating: O2 Sensors, Oil Pump, Timing Chain/Gear set, Motor Mounts
I'll also be hiding wires and cleaning engine bay.
Rmodel65...I'm looking into the high volume oil pump. Some say not to use a high volume, others say it's ok. I'm still doing research to seewhat is best for my application (mostly stock). What manufacturer or part # would you suggest for an oil pump and shaft?
