Default E7TE heads

i have a set of e7te heads that i am thinking of porting out...my question is how big of a lift will these heads handle with a set of aftermarket springs ? i was told that they wont handle over .500 cuz the valves are too short. is this true? im looking to put a 286/294 duration cam with .536/.542 lift...is it possible?
