im new with this car stuff but i was wondering how to install a distributor on a 88 5.0 gt [:@]thanks

turn engine to top dead center (look at the center lower pully for (0) and place in the center of the pointer) install distributor with the distributor pointer pointing to the #1 spark plug wire(distrubutor must be fully seated with distributor pointer pointing to the #1 spark plug wire).
place locking bracket for the distributor into place and snug bolt. start vechicle and adjust timming(might need to adjust the distributor to get started).

TDC (top dead center) on the COMPRESSION stroke.
put the dizzy in and rotate the base until it is on the #1 spot on the cap. then pull the spout connector, tighten down the dizzy enough that it wont spin freely but u can make it twist, then fire it up, aim timing light at pointer, rotate dizzy until the pointer is at 10 (clockwise=advance) then kill it, put spout in, tighten down dizzy and you are good to go.

Here is a tech article for it. I personally use a long screwdriver and put it in plug #1. I turn engine by hand till the piston is at it's highest point and then reverse rotation just a hair untill piston starts moving back down then i go the other way till it reaches it's highest again. Like lincoln said you must be on the COMPRESSION stroke which is explained in the tech article.
