We've already told you. Either take off the center console(which you probably can't because the screw heads are stripped) or use a ratchet wrench. There's really no other way to do it unless you feel like breaking it or putting holes in the console.
dang whats with the attitude?
the problem is that fact that even with a ratchet wont the console keep the bolt from coming out cuz the bolt is too
long?

my suggestion, when you put it back in, leave those 2 out, i can get the lower boot bracket in over the shifter with a little finesse, and then get the 2 back ones in, keeps it in place, and no removal of the console

you cant get a wrench in there?

i can get the wrench in there, but it seems to me that the bolt will make contact
with the console BEFORE the bolt is all the way out

there will be just enough room to snake the bolt out using a ratchet wrench

honestly i didnt even use a ratchet wrench, i got a 5/16's socket to fit under it

those 2 console screws (4 if u count the ones hiding behind the glove) are a pain. you just gotta get the right size screwdriver so you dont strip them and turn them like you mean it. i took a dash out of a junkyard car that those were the HARDEST screws to get out. prolly experience the most body flex there i guess

and you should try to remove the console and do it right the first time

i did not read all these... but so far it is not accurate at all

that inner rubber boot is nothing more than a dust shield to keep debris out of the car and possibly a 1/2 decibal of road noise. i have replaced about 10 shifters, my cars, buddies cars etc.

i have NEVER taken out the console for it EVER

you just need a short wrench to get those 2, 8mm if i remember ?? or 10 at the biggest.

if you use a short wrench , all you get is about 1/4 turn, but they are short bolts. i never put them back in.....just the 2 easy ones.

I put a triax in my 87 gt last month. I can feel your pain. It took prob. 2 hrs and half of that was due to these two bolts.
I had to pick up an open end offset wrench and then could only get 1/4 turns. Harder yet is getting them back in once the new shifter is in place it sits a little higher giving you even less clearance to get the bolts back in. but I got them in and out without removing the councel. Good Luck!

Trim the outlined area of the console. That's what I did. It will help axcess the bolts

There's no attitude but everything has been suggested on what to do. And no the bolts are not that long they will come out easily. I've done it with a socket as well but found it to be much easier with a ratchet wrench. Sorry if my reply seemed rude.
