Gawd, carbs from the 70's and 80's sucked compared to some of the stuff we have today. And yeah, for a street 347 650cfm on an Air Gap would work very well.

No, the RPM Air Gap would be a better choice. You're not going to be any faster with a Vic Jr unless you have an engine where the power is made past 7,000rpm and carries through for a ways past that. The VJ might show a higher peak hp on the dyno, but with your setup you'll make better overall power with the Air Gap(it's even arguable as to whether a single plane would even make more peak power in the first place).

unless you got the cam to huff past 7k the victor is from 3500 to 8000 I believe and the rpm air gap is 2500 to 6500 = more ideal for a street strip car and for a hydraulic roller cause once you eclipse the 7k mark unless you have blue printed hydraulic lifters you 'd be better to switch to a solid roller for high rpm motor.......I'm running a comp cam xe 282 hr = 565/574 lift and this cam has been profiled and dynoed in many stroker motors in recent months in the mustang mags and produced good results for an ots cam and it has run well and done well for me too.....but with the stroker you need at least a 185 head and I run afr 185's and an rpm air gap as my cams power band is to 6600 and it's outta steam before 7k so no real need for a victor for me

Absolutely right on the money!
There is no wayto overcome the loss of Midrange TORQUE of the Vic Jr manifold compared to the RPM manifold. Except maybe w/ nitrous or a turbo.
Average power during the course of your run is what wins the race.
What good is it if your car makes 10-20 or more horsepower at 7000 rpm, when you're only there for a fews tenths of a second each run!(right before you shift it)
I have the Vic JR on my car and peak torque is all the way up @ 5500 rpm. (Is that what you want?)Max HP is @7400RPM Shift point 8000, high chip @9000. Takes some serious hardware to control the valves at that speed. ie Solid rollercam, double springs, stud girdles,$$$,etc.
The powerband (sweetspot) of your car is roughly between peak torque and peak HP. +- 10%
That's where you want to spend the most time running.Figure out your powerband (preferably on a chassis dyno) then gear your car accordingly!
Class Dismissed!

I agree with MJR on his set-up, I run the same cam with a 750 Holley and a single plane Hurricane intake and RPM Performer heads that I ported and polished, makes 448 HP and pulls like it wants more to 7,000. torque is incredible also, I had no idea that a small ford could make that kinda torque until this motor!
