Have you checked the timing?Sounds like it is advanced to far and cutting out. Check the codes and timing if you can.

Yeah the guy I bought the project from said someone he knew advanced it. But I got my OBD1 reader and i got a few codes that point to the MAF. 157 and 159 low voltage and 159 is a fault in the MAF sensor. Would the MAF cause the car to cut out?

According to the book for the tester the cylinder balance test gives codes like 10-20-30 etc. to show what cyl is not contributing to the car's performance. I got a code that said 8 but had the "cyl" above it. Not sure of that means there's a problem with that or not.
