They are easy and yes you should replace it since you have the tranny out. Most people remove it by sticking a screwdriver between it and the crank and pry out (be careful to not nick the crank) or to screw in 2 sheet metal screws 180* apart then pry against the back the back of the crank using the screws as a puller. Then to install the new one take the old seal and lay it over the old and just hammer it in all around. A little oil on the seal and the crank is a good idea for lubrication.

I recently went through this same problem, put fresh built t-5 in and replaced the rear main hoping to fix my oil leak, but once i got it all done and installed it didnt fix it. I would try to clean off around the bellhousing and were the bellhousing meets the block then once you get it all back together fire it up and check for leaks. If its still leaking make sure to check that the oil isnt coming from the top of the motor (valve covers/ intake) and if not more then likely its your oil pan gasket.

I had to change mine after i installed the trans and it blowed [:@]but once i got it all done it fixed a few of my problems i had( oil leaking/severe smoking problems/ low oil pressure at high RPMS) also changed the oil pump/pump shaft while in there its a good idea.

GL!
