Default idle problems

i have an 88 5.0 and ive replaced the idle controll valve because i was at 15-1600 rpms when at idle and after replacing the vlave it now is up too 1800 rpms and ive checked vaccum lines and all is well there so now ive completely unplugged the valve sensor and its idling at 1000rpms.
anyone know where to go to next?

You can tryadjusting the throttle screw but if you go to much your paddle will get sticky and 800 is alot to go to get to 1000rpms

Did you reset the system to re learn the idle after switching parts? I don't think leaving it unplugged will cause any initial harm but would be better to find the root cause. Check the wiring loom to see if the pig tail added for the MAF was disturbed when unplugging the IAC but first I pull the terminal on the batt and let the system reset if you have not already done so.
