Default 347 Stroker with Original Heads

Question. I've got a '91 5.0 I rebuilding. I did up the bottom end, Bored, stroked (347), ect. ran out of money and just need to get it back running. What do you guys thing about putting the original heads back on? also should I use the same cam or go bigger?

Thanks,

Absolutely will choke the motor, use AFR 185or equivalent head. I would go with a Comp Cam grind something around .550 lift. Good luck with the motor.

What do you mean by choking? I know I won't get the most out of the engine, but will it work? Thank you much.

Since you're limited by the always present financial condition, it's really your call. You shouldn't obviously expect "great things" out of a 347 with E7 or equiv. heads, but that's what you can do right now. You have the foundation ready, it's a matter of planning and saving for a good set of heads to complement the stroker. Would it be "wise" to add to the cost with a "bigger" cam?...... your call, but gains would not be at the level you could be expecting. If you look at it in terms of $'s and ¢'s...... you're basically ~$1,800 (+ miscellaneous) away from a killer setup.

if you put E7 heads back onto the 347... expect about 100hp less than you COULD be making

Thanks Joel5.0 That's what I wanted to know. I figured I can get it running and change heads, cam, ect later.

If that is all you can afford right now and need it running, go for it.

You can always add the top-end later and open it up.
