Default Please Help!

Alright, so i just picked up an 88 mustang LX 5.0/5-speed that was torn down to replace the heater core, I've gotten it mostly back together with the new heater core in, but I've hit a bit of a snag. There is a large white plug that apparently goes into a metal socket on the steering column, this socket has a spring and a small metal rod that is moved by the key, all I have is the white piece with the flat metal things on the end, is there something else that is supposed to be inserted into there, or is that it? The key doesn't spring back from being all the way forward(to activate the starter).

Thanks for any explanation as to how to get this part back together.

A)I didn't mess with it(previous owner was a tad over-zelous)
B)I found the part in a box already

My 900 dollar mustang runs like a champ and is 90% of the way back together. She started up instantly after sitting for six years(threw out a bit of a rust cloud though).

Now to figure out my damn blinkers and horn.

Blinkers were the ignition switch, though i still need a new flasher relay(they blink very slowly). Now I just need to fix the horn, get a new battery, and have the windshield fixed and I'm on the road.
