Default Question from a 4.6er

Hey, guys. I'm not usually in the 5.0 section much, and never post here, but an idea recently came to mind.

I've been contemplating swapping out the 4.6 2v in my 02 GT for a high compression carbed 347 stroker. Got a couple questions for you guys, though.

What's a good place to find parts? I'd like to build the motor myself (I'm not worried about doing the work myself), and not just buy a crate motor, but I don't really know where to start with part searching. Basically I'd want to be able to make about 450-500rwhp NA and then a nice 250 or so shot of the go juice. But I don't know how attainable that is. The most I've seen in an NA 4.6 is about 350rwhp, since the heads flow like **** for a 2v. So how attainable to you think 450ish is?

So basically I'm just looking for a good place (or places) to get some parts. I'd like to idealy start with a new fully assembled short block and then build the whole thing on a stand.

Oh, before I forget, what are good manual trannies that will work and hold up to a **** load of torque?

Thanks for any help guys.

Gonna be tough to get 450-500np N/A without a solid investment on your part...that much hp n/a and that big of a n20 shot is way beyond the limits of a stock ford production 302 block, much less one stroked to a 347..look into one of the big boy blocks DSS or something along those lines....AFR heads, probably still need to port them out....as for the tranny, a properly driven tremec can withstand wonders...its the powershifting to save 1 or 2 tenths that kills them...good luck...and props for sticking with the manual trans idea...im the same way...ill take 400 hp in a stick car vs. 700 in an overstalled (for the street) auto...just for fun of driving factor alone!.. spending that kind of money, jegs or summit comes to mind for the reliability and return policy factor...

a 347 off a stock block is more than capable of 450rwhp, but with a 250 shot, your not going to have a V8 for long, think 2 slant 4's...

like veram says, its in your best interest, for longetivity, to get either a 347 short block thats rated to what your thinking of (id get no less than 800hp, just to be safe when spraying) or getting a built block and a 347 kit and doing it yourself. The latter might save you a few coins, but id think the former would be a little more reliable, unless you REALLY know what your doing, and can build it PERFECT, and get parts rated for what your doing

You might also want to look into a 351 or a 408 stroker, those will probably get you a little more HP with a little more reliability

Definatelly look into 351's. As stated you can stroke em out to 408 or just build it 351. Either way, they can definatelly handle what you want. And there's just as much aftermarket support for 351's as for 302's.

I'm not planning on using a stock block, lol.

So what would be a good place to find a 351 or 408 (that's the stroked version right?) short block? I'm basically looking for just a short block with a high compression (around 10:1, 11:1 maybe, something good for n20) that I can put on a stand and add the heads, cam, intake, all that jazz myself over time. Something good for about 700-800rwhp.
