okay 87 5.0 new melling high volume oil pump new motor the deal is the old one got some pencil lead piece of hard steel in the pump gear i changed it out had to drive the car home put a mechanical gauge in it sun pro ( buy a good gauge the sun-pro sucks it sticks maybe just mine but anyways vdo best way out) it twisted the pump shaft twice i bought one and it did it in the drive way in five seconds. what would be a motor with say 1800 miles on it oil pressure its bore .40 over e-303. also it does 60lbs. at start up and between 50 to 45 and some 40 when i get into it i get almost seventy out of her should i be worried about the journals or what i need some council on the lower end of the motor i know the whole ten pounds per thousand im looking for some good gear head answers here ladies guys

Your lifters are doing this, that piece of metal is LIFTER ROLLER bearing failure, the lack of pressure, would have the crank and rod bearings worn down, causing fluctutations.

this is a new motor and the first time iv broken a mustang the roller lifter would be screaming and would have been an easy fix but when i pulled three rockers pushrods random everything was to my specs okay the only real flux is between start and hot. but what it does is like clock work i just needed to know what i should be looking for in a mech gauge on one of these ponys via pressure. if it starts nockin then scat 331 time which i kick myself in the culo for not doing in the first. i had a good block hell if i would have put a bottom in that one id still be busting rice butt right now. i put four quarts of gtx 20-50 and one quart lucas add. i let it idle for a bit and now gonna drink beer till i pass out. oh and that piece of metal if it was roller spline bearing had a heck of a journeyfrom up there to the pump without getting ate before getting therebut wherever it came from i know it didnt come from me or the pickup tube i guess i should just ask it where it came from that seems to be the thing to do.
