Need quick advise on a 5.0
Hello all...
I previously owned a '01 GT but had to trade in when the kido came along. At the point where I'm looking for a used 5.0 to build up and play with. I found one for sale, a tad beat up, but a good build up car by the looks of it. Was meeting tonight to take for a test spin. My question, is on the sides it has the cobra emblam, along with cobra on the back bumper. How can I specifically know if it is indeed a cobra, and not a GT with the emblams slapped on? I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I gotta start somewhere!

check the rear bottom bumper to see if it says Mustang GT or Cobra, not a emblem but acculy in the bumber cover itself, then check the rims spoiler front bumber, under the hood look for cobra intake gt-40 heads and diffrent looking headers, also there should be a strut tower brace across the top of the motor from each strut top, you can also just write down the vin# and call a local ford dealer and ask them, they will do that for free in the parts dep. for you

Real Cobra's were only made in '93.
Some Canadian GT's were Cobra GT's but theyre identical to American GT's except the emblems (stickers?).

if its an SN (since you did not specify) look at the 8th digit of the vin, it should be a D

Thanks for the replies. It is a 93. It does have the cobra snake emblams on the front on both sides, and engraved in the back bumper is cobra. I took a quick peak under the hood, will obviously do more as a test ride it, does it or should it say cobra on the headers?

check the a/c...mine wa sout when i got mine-- i didn't care though still love the car...
just doa thorough inspection under the hood... Water pump, valve cover, bottom driver side part of the radiator (if its stock-- thats where mine started leaking)... ummm- rearend housing check for and leakage.... and around the drivers side door towards the front at the bottom corner on the inside.... when it rains hard the drainagepassage waymakes a little bit of water seap into that area, the interior parts (kick panel part of the floorboard)right in that area will look kinda wet/ sticky... it wipes right off though.... Nothing a car cover cant handle... Make sure all guages work properly.. of course.
