93 5.0 with high miles
I just traded my 03 SRT-4 for a 93 5.0 because if anybody has had a SRT-4 parts suck and to much money will need to be spent to get good power. Anyways I traded it for a 93 LX 5.0 the body and underbody are in great shape motor is clean and runs good it just has 122000 miles. Now, I would like to know with out having to drop a new motor in or rebuild this one what could I do to get some more power and reliability for awhile until I get some money saved up to either rebuild or drop a built motor in. I don't need a lot more I would just like to have some more throttle response, and more power in the mid RPM range.
If anybody was wondering just for comparison to get a good aftermarket clutch that is worth a **** for the SRT-4 would cost about $600 not counting the shop time. With just that in my mind and looking at what it would cost to get the car to run in the range of the stock 5.0 reliably with out limiting the turbo life in half would cost about $3000 and up after the other parts needed after the stage 2 kit. Plus I am older now and realized that running American Muscle is the only way and I am ready to own the 5.0.
Thanks
Wade

Gears, if you don't have them.Do a Tune up,remove air silencer if not done, put in a K&N filter, bigger throttle body, upper and lower intake, after that it would have to be a bigger maf, heads, and cam.

well i just wrote you a complete first time build to ur ride and the F"ing page crashed and im not rewriting it all now, start out with a cold air intake, msd cap rotor and wires, new msd blaster 3 coil and a 6a ignition box. then work your exhaust then up your gear ratio to atleast a 3:55, 3:73 if you wanna bust people on light to light racing ill write the build again for you after do some stuff then ill send to you

Well so far this site is more helpful then the srt one, people are dicks on there. They don't answer question they just tell you how dumb you are for doing something or wanting to try something.
The car already has the ShortRam intake should I go with a CAI or keep the ShortRam?
So, I will work on the ignition first. Sounds good enough. Thanks guys

RE: 93 5.0 with high miles
I found my '93 5.0 back in December. It is a 5 sp that had 113500 miles on it.I did a complete tune up to include wires, cap, rotor and plugs. I changed out the air filter to a K&N and removed the air silencer box located in between the right front wheel well and the grill area. All of that madea difference both in mpg and performance. I also added a bottle of Chevron Pro Guard injector cleaner.

yea take that intake off and buy you a mac or bbk cold air intake remove the factory stuff in the fenderwall, and run the filter inside the passenger fender then out and into the mass air meter then up and into the throttle body, its a complete kit you can buy for about $150 and its the best bang for the buck when its a all motor car, as for your ignition man, go MSD get the cap and rotor kit with wire retainer, then a nice set of MSD 9mm wires, upgrade your factory coil to a blaster 3, then try to pick up MSD 6a, thats a multiple spark box, basicly meaning for every rotation your cam makes and turns your rotor in your distributor you get 1 spark out of the plug, this MSD 6a will change that to ruffly 3 sparks per rotation, making MUCH more fire, you will hear and feel the diffrence the second you install this ignition upgrade. and, are you using ford plugs in the factory heat range? and dont use low grade fuel

If emission aren't a worry...ditch the smog pump and smog lines. Then you'll have one less accessory, drop some weight and it makes your engine bay less cluttered...plus it cost nothing.
