Hard Start & Sometimes No Start when Hot! - HELP!
Ok, I am no mechanic, but i am not a 5.0 nube either.
I have tried everything I can so far with no results.
As far as I know so far
New Battery
Alternator Checks out Fine - tested
Starter Checks Out Fine - Tested
No codes thrown at local auto parts tester
New Battery Cables and cleaned contact points
Pretty sure its only hard/no starting when hot, I can go back out in a couple hours and start it, sometimes with a little hesitation at first, but always starts after it cools down.
I am checking for parasitic drains later today, but I am pretty sure the heat of running is the culprit.
Sound familiar to anyone? Starter Overheating? (It has stock exhaust with an offroad H-Pipe and dumps at flowmasters)
What else can get hot and cause a hard start?
Thanks
Dan

RE: Hard Start & Sometimes No Start when Hot! - HELP!
Yah, thats why I called it a hard start - Cranks with no start (dead battery type crank)
and usually after she sits and cools down, its the beginning of a hard crank, then fires.
Just did a coil test and myPrimary test ranks slightly below what specs say is normal range
Haynes Manual says - Primary resistance - 0.8 to 1.6 ohms - I am fluttering between 0.6 & 0.7 ohms. Book says anything above or below that range replace coil.
Secondary Resistance 8 to 11.5 K-ohms I am at 10.5 K-Ohms
Would the coil be effected after running the car for a period of time?
Thanks for your interest Guys.

Sounds like heat soak in the starter...
I dont know if I missed it, but does it have a slower crank when hot?
Try making a sheild for the starter to deflect heat..

heat won't allow current to flow as well. Did you do the check on your coil while it was hot or cold?
Next time it's hot try having a friend help you, run a ground wire from the - side of the battery terminal to where the bolt is on the starter (if you can get to it) Your starter may have a bad ground or it could be on it's way to going out.
You do have good connections from the bat to the solenoid & from the solenoid to the starter right? Same with ground... good connection from the - post to the frame &/or engine?
