Default 5.0 that has Chevy pistons in it! wtf

Anyone heard of people doing this? I picked up a Engine from a storage buy that was being built by someone that was doing what looks like a very nice job of this before they stopped for some reason. Alls I know is the pistons in it are TRW-2441F30 which are Chevy 327/350 dished pistons for a blower or s/c. They are on Ford rods so someone had to machine these to fit the bigger pin diameter. It has 351W heads from 1970 that have been ported nice and thats as far as they got. Is this something thats done by some for a reason or was this just one individuals idea for performance reasons on his own.

I'm running Mahle flat tops for a SBC with a 5.7" Scat rod for SBC in my 302. It may have been something like that, or just what he had lying around. Do you know what the rods are?

It's not totally uncommon in the racing world.
Small block Chevys have ummteen million piston forgings available for them.
They flycut the valve reliefs after you order them, to match your heads, valve sizes, camlift, etc.
My 5.0L stroker has SBC Venolia pistons w/ the .927" pin diameter.(more wristpins available for Chevys too)Rods are 5.4" Forged steel with the .927" bore,They actually use Chevy v-6 229 Cu. In. rod bearings on the big end! I thought that odd myself, but the engine builder is a pro (Kuntz & Co.) Obviously knows what he's doing.

Super sweet! you gotta love the demons!I thought that it was weird that they use the 229 bearings too. Thats what my eagle 347 uses. I believe it is because the bearing is really narrow, and allows for the crank to have a radius, and therefore make it much stronger.

The bearing is an early model Chevy oddfire V6 bearing. It's for the 2.100" SBC crankpin diameter but is narrower than a SBC V8 bearing so it fits rods setup for Fords. That's the bearing I WOULD be running if I felt like getting raped on a bearing. They charge like $100 for a set of freakin rod bearings, so I got some standard King SBC V8 bearings and had them narrowed down on a lathe. It's half the price that way. It's so I can run the 5.7" SBC rods in the 302, also had to cut the crankpins to 2.100".

Wow it makes me wonder what all I'm going to need to change back just to get a flat top Piston in there. I know they were going to run a Blower on this because it did have the intake they were going to use for it. I wish I had the money and something to put it in the way it is with a big ol blower sticking out of the hood but I'm only looking to try and make an engine with about 350 hp or so. Its an 87 roller block but they had a non roller cam in it and I have no idea how nasty it is. I'm gonna have to think this out I think lol
