Possible to govern one??
I just bought my son a 1988 Gt hatchback with a motor that is close to 400HP im scared that if i let him on the road alone he will kill himself with all that power..so is there anyway to govern one at about 80mph?? Is there some kind of chip you can get to lower the top speed? If you have any info please get back to me thanks

RE: Possible to govern one??
yes--- any tuner can do this at a performance shop, or some programmers will let you do this.
Set max rpms
Max speed
etc....
The best way-- although kinda pricey is a custom tune from a performance shop. They will tune the car to the best it can be do what you want done to it.
most custom tunes not includin dyno pulls start at about $225- then about $75 per dyno pull + tune time.

RE: Possible to govern one??
Why not install a very small throttle body? The stockish one won't allow too much air to come in & will reduce power by quite a bit assuming it's still n/a
Is it supercharged or turbocharged?

RE: Possible to govern one??
true?--- i was wondering the same thing....
Also i've seen some computer shutdown system on a talk show where parents do not trust their kids ridin around, and if the system gets over the programmed speed it'll shut down the vehicle, and also you can take the system out (just like a programmer) and plug it into a laptop and read everything the vehicle has done, where it's been, it's range of speed, max speed...etc... Just another thought.
As for the question above-- my folks got my mustang for me as a grad' present in '02, then i joined the USAF, the car was stock... 3 days later it was kinda modded... As i was stationed in korea i had my parents take $$$ out of my acct to build my mustang, and at the same time i paid them $300 back.... But nah they didn't trust me at first either--- it's natural
Sports car + young teenage guy= trouble
Trust me there will be a few tickets--- i've had about 12-18 since i recv'd the car. and i'm now 24.

RE: Possible to govern one??
this was a bad choice if you dont trust your son
lets see, your sun wants to go race, is kicking up speed on a curve, hits your limiter, that thing you saw on TV kicks in, motor shuts off, power steering goes off and the steering wheel becomes too hard to complete the turn and he ends up hugging a tree.
good idea :/
if he is not responsible enough to drive the car then he should not have it, limiter or not. these cars are dangerous as is in LOW speeds, the *** spins out way too easy even stock, and if its over 400hp then you are just asking for trouble

ya i dont get this at all....u have to trust the kid, if u want him to be safe..drive in the car with him..take him to a parking lot to haev him get used to the car..have him do a couple tail whiops and drifts or hoelshots so he knows how the car reasts..then set him loose...
