ok thanks. i couldnt remember... i havent taken a ford cam out in so long that its pitiful. i know that on a roller chevroletblock you dont have to use it if you arent going back with a roller cam(in fact, you cant use it, the cam is 1/8" longer if its a non roller)...
in other words, just wasnt sure about a ford anymore. dont have to take them apart like chevys b-cuz they're such better motors

Just because of the way you answered: you DO NOT have to run EFI to use a roller cam.

Choosing to run a flat tappet cam over a roller cam is pointless, unless you're in a restricted racing class that requires it. Most roller cams with "smaller numbers" will perform better than an equivalant numbers flat tappet cam. And like Woody said, the numbers they publish don't tell you much about how the cam operates.

If at all possible stay with the roller cam.Flat tappet isa thing of past notonly thatyou have torun a oil with zinc in it (Mobile, Val., etc.stopped using zinc) oryou will wear the lobes off in no time.Although the lift numbers may not be as great the, lobe ramps are more aggressive in the roller cam, and Comp Cams has some very nice Extreme cams.

Don't forget about the abundance of FT cam shaft failures due to crappy castings, lack of zink additives in oils/assembly lubes, and poor break in methods.
