Default Pinion gear

Stupid question but, does the spline count on the pinion gear have to match the axel spline count?

No the spline counts are independent of each other. You can put a different carrier or really just the spider gears in from a explorer I believe and go from 28 spline axles to 31 spline axles.

The only time you have to worry about pinion splines is if you are upgrading the pinion yolk. Axles are completely seperate
