Okay, its a 1985 Mustang GT. Automatic. CFI. It WAS running okay, but now nothing. I went to start the car the other day, but it wouldnt crank. It wouldnt do ANYTHING. Its like the battery isnt even there. No dome light, no door buzzer, nothing. I went to attach the jumper cables (Assuming the Batt. was dead) And the car started to crank. My keys were still in my pocket. When I touch the terminal ends to the battery, it arcs. Its probably something obvious. Im sure somebody, a five year old included, would know this better than me. Any ideas?

Take off your starter relay (in between the battery and the coil) and shake it, if you hear something rattling around then it's bad and will cause the starter to stay engaged.

I would say to check the starter relay first, followed up by the wiring for the ignition switch. At the relay disconnect the wire running to the starter and hook back up the jumper cables to see if it still arcs as bad as before.

Wait a minute.. The starter relay. Its a bulky thing about the size of a shot glass and it says diode supressed on it, right? Its right between the battery and coil. A whole bunch of wires screw down to one side, and one goes to the other...

yes, that is the starter solenoid. if it is stuck, it could drain your battery... and if it was stuck, would cause the car to start when battery power was applied.

Yeah, that's your problem. Just slap a new one in there and that should fix it. Mine did it in september and I had to jump out and rip the battery cables off real quick with a pair of pliers that I just luckily had that day. It was only like $8 I think for a new one and took about 5 minutes.
