Not hard at all. Make sure you empty the take as much as possible before hand because you have to drop the tank down. Do you the precedure at all?? Sometimes it helps to have a buddy there to help but it can be done with one person pretty easy too.

drop tank = 2 traps..undo elec connection and fuel lines and slide out from filler tube and then tap locking ring around with straight blade screwdriver and hammer

That is only if you spill any one you. The garage will smell regardless though. When taking off the locking ring on the pump be sure to use some penetrating fluid if it is rusted at all. If it is you may cut/break off one of the tabs when hammering hitting it. try a small punch or something if a screwdriver doesn't work. Just take your time dropping it and installing it. When putting the filler neck back in you can use a little bit of oil on the gromment for easier install of the tube. You don't want to rip that when putting things back together and not know it until you fill your tank back up. That always sucks....especially with today's gas prices.

arent you supposed to use a brass punch around fuel because it won't spark

That is one reason but the brass is also supposed to give way before the metal does bc it is softer. Same reason why you use rubber hammers on aluminum and stuff like that.
