Default How to put on a ring and pinion gears???

Is it hard to install it by myself??? Or would i just be better off taking it the the shop?? I got 4:10 for free are these pretty good!! My pops gave them to me. Also if i do take it to the shop, how much should it cost around to install it, so i won't get cheated on thanks.

Don't do it yourself. Should cost between $200 and $300 to install.

correct if the op has to ask the question of how hard it'd be, he shouldn't attempt it cause to do it right you need special tools and the know how to read the marking pattern....take it to a shop....price above quoted is reasonable... I just set mine up and I have the expensive oem depth checker....... you need to be able to choose the correct pinion shim and have the press and tool to remove old bearing so it can be pressed on new pinion and you need a torque wrench to torque ring gear and main caps down to proper spec and you need a dial indicator to set up back lash and a inch lbs torque wrench to measure pre load on new crush collar once crush is set and you'll need shims/ install kit to set all to spec..and once you have the rear set up you use marking compound and roll over gearsand check pattern and if the drive side or coast side has either a high heel/toe or low heel/toe marking then you need to know to either add more pinion shim or subtract and if so you 'll have to reset backlash accordingly.....you'd be best off taking it to a shop

you'll need an installation kit with carrier shim to to set up backlash correctly

those are just shims for behind the pinion.. I know what the ford racing kits come with..cause I just bought and installed a 3.73 frpp set saturday....the carrier shims that may be needed if you can't reuse stock ones and I couldn't cause it didn't give me the right backlash reading so I purchased an install kit and in such come the carrier shims needed which are different from the pinion shim kit included in your set..or just take what you got to a shop and if they do them often they may have carrier shims laying around that you may need

if the wear on the ring is even and in the middle, you might get away with using the stock pinion shim. ive seen this done before.
