Default Trying to figure out Speedo

Once again I am using your knowledge to try and help me understand more of what I have. I just bought a 95 GT with 60,000 milesand am trying to understand a little more of whatI have. For some moreinfo it is bone stock for the most part. 17inch94 cobra wheelsandflowmasters are all that I and the previous owner knows about (old ladywas 2nd owner since 97and knows nothing at all execpt her honda got better gas miliage and her husband is the one who did everything back in the day)

Question One:On the highway myspeedometer/odometer is off. It says that I am going faster than what I am and also for every 1 mile that it reads I am onlygoing .9, so for every 110 mileson the odometer I am really going 100.... From my many different gear setsI have had in myJeep i think this could be the problem. Could it be the wrong speedo gear? I tach at close to 3grand at 85mph.

Question Two: Cam. This car is really choppy and from the looks it has had some motor work. I have heard sound clips and it sounds like an ecam but is there another way to tell... I just don't understand why a car stock would have a cam and nothing else.

Any input would be helpful.I have beenaround 32valves for some yearsnow and not used to the good oldtorque filled 5.0.

Tire size can also change how your speedo reads. If it was set at the factory to read for 16 or 15 inch wheels then it would make your speedo off having 17's on it. Its still possible that u may have gears. I would guess you have 3.73's or 4.10's. I have 4.10's with a 5 speed and I run about 3100rpms at 85. Its possible it could be the wrong speedo gear in the trans but unlikely. SN95'suse an electric recalibrator to correct for gears/wheel changes. As far as the cam goes you should be able to hear it. When I got my 1995 GT it had an E cam with 1.7RRs and you could tell it had a cam quick. No real way to know what kind it is unless u take it out.

Yea, i do have the 94 95 cobra wheels which are 17's but i would think that would reduce the speed because of the revolution of the tires being greater, it takes longer to reach the same spot but i could be wrong. I also have a ticking from the header so I replaced it with bbk shorties and after starting it up open headers I have found out that I have an e cam for sure. Thanks for the reply, i did not know that the sn's had a electric recalibrator. Thanks.

5 speed or auto?

pull the speed sensor from the tranny and check what color the gear is on the end. and with a flashlight, look inside the tranny and see what color the other gear is.

then jack up the back end of the car, and mark the driveshaft. then turn the rear wheels ONE revolution, and count the number of times the driveshaft turns

post back with your findings
