Default Cam Suggestions 1993 GT

I was at the local speed shop today looking for some info on getting a new cam put in my 1993 GT, the guy there kind of burst my bubble. I'm looking for some serious lope, a "damn that pony is cammed" type effect. He told me because my car is fuel injected and not carbed that a high lift cam is not the path I want to go down, that my computer will have issues.

He suggested a ford racing e303 cam, saying I could slide that right in without having to beef up anything else.

I'm looking for a second opinion which is why I'm here. What are my options? Like I said I want my car to lope, what I've done tomy pony thus far is minimal including shorty headers, off road h-pipe, flowmaster cat back, and high flo air filter.

I dont mind spending a bit extra to accomodate my needs including buying rods and lifters and springs. Anything. What can I do to my car guys to get that woomp woomp woomp that I'm looking for?

Thank you all

~Sean~

the e303 cam woulld work fine with you computer, a b3o3 or even an f3o3 would work. the e303 is a mild cam though and has some lope to it, but not a real radical lope or anything like that. i would suggest that you get new valve springs to go along with the new cam though, but a cam only install will not really give you alot of horsepower and torque may a 10hp gain at the most. I HIGHLY reccomend that you do an intake and head upgrade at the same time as the cam install so that you will get the most out of the cam. In a lot of cases an overcammed engine on stock heads and intake can even make you car a little slower. AFR, Edelbrock, Canfeild, and TrickFlow all make good cylinder heads for a 5.0. and Holley Trickflow, and the Gt40 intakes are all real nice too. Hope this helps you out a little!

first that guy you talked to is a douche!!!......lift will not so much create a prob as an aggressive lobe profile with lots of valve overlap and duration will.. but still the eec iv is capable of self adaptation and an e-cam is old tech..there are better choices and a cam swap = valvetrain upgrage you can't just slide e in with no spring upgrade.. good thing you didn't trust him and came here first cause he's got his bass ackwards

oh one more thing IMO a cam swap is a waste on a stock motor without a decent head and intake combo too

find you a set of gt-40p heads with matching upper and lower intake, and throw a B303 cam in it and some nitrous, you will be good to go mid 12's

letter cams are old school ..I'd spend the extra dough for a custom cam before getting another letter cam

Custom is the best if you can afford it. It can range from $300-$400.

A few options, since very forum has their favorite:

Ed Curtis (edcurtisFTI@verizon.net) @ www.flowtechinduction.com
Buddy Rawls (rawls1103@aol.com) @ http://www.wighat.com/fcr3/index.html
Jay Allen (jayallen@comcast.net) @ www.camshaftinnovations.com

They will all do a nice job for you.

If you are on a budget, go with a TFS-1 camshaft. It will not hold a candle to a custom camshaft in overall performance (not just power).

I would suggest getting a camshaft with an intake and cylinder head combination.

Like mjr and joel said, dont bother with just a cam. It may sound good but could possibly slow you down. A custom cam would be a waste at this point.
