isnt it a collapsible shaft like the stock one? you should be able to push it into itself the 2 inches you need. all steering shafts have to be collapsable its federal law
A stock steering shaft is not collapsable at least on my 89 vert. The steering shaft coming out of the fire wall allows you to slip on the steering shaft and then slide it down on to the splines of the rack. Now on my 90 ranger that i had the steering shaft is collapsable i know this b/c i had to modify the shaft when i put the 302 in it.
