You may want to check this video it's not that the valve stays open......it's that the springs bounce and cannot keep the valve closed.

alright, thanks i was thinking of getting some new springs and the 1.7's. granted it wouldnt be any considerable hp gains but it'd be something and i can still use all that down the line with a new cam etc etc

umm if it cannot keep the valves closed isnt that the same thing as saying the valve stays open

yea i thought about it a little more later. but how would the lifters get passed up by the lobes? valve floats been something thats bothered me cause i've never quite understood how it happens. but like you've said before why even rev a stock 5.0 that high power drops off around 4500
valve float in person

What are the specs of the stock springs?
yea, i'm curious now too, i found some from crane blue racer that are stock size which is 1.440 O.D. most others were 1.460 or more
