Once in a great while, when I turn the key to start the car, something strange happens. Instead of the usual zzz zzz zzz zzz vroom...I hear a click, whizzing/whirring, then a light thud/bump. I then have to turn the key again to start the car and it works like normal.

I would say it happens about less than 5% of the time.

What is most likely happening?

It sounds lie the solenoid may not be engaging or disengaging.
