i hate that silver ball and pin that needs to get replaced through the shifter opening when you remove the tailshaft, and contrary to what others say... i think it's easier w/ the trans out. i just can't see it done w/ the trans in the car.

lol well ima factory trained Ford Tech. and I have about all the tools you could ever want or need I was just wondering how far into the trans you had to go to change the drive gear. Sounds pretty easy. I have my rear end out and torn down, im just waiting for parts. I was gonna pull the trans anyway and put a new throwout bearing in cuz it goes squeak, squeak, squeak unless i rest my foot on teh clutch. Thanx for the info though.

you should be fine then
the tailsaft cover needs to come off, and the drive gear is clipped to the tailsaft. it slides over it
get the 6t black one... that way you can use all ford gears

how long does it take to chew up the non ford gear?
i have heard it is usually 15k-20k miles , but no experience whatsoever. don't actually know ne1 who used it
