3G Alt install question

3G Alt install question
Why is it nessecary to retain the stock 10 awg charging wire? I've got a 2 awg wire running directly under it and connecting to the same spot at the solenoid. Seems like if I took the yellow wire that comes off of the fusible link and connected it to the solenoid I could elminate the 10 awg wire all together.
Am I misunderstanding something?

RE: 3G Alt install question
I seem to remember someone saying that if you wanted your charge gauge to work properly you had to connect that crap. I can't understand why though. Even 5.0 magazine reconnected it in an article from last month.
Screw it.. I'm removing it from the car and keeping the wire that it merges into at the solenoid. It will clean my wiring up a lot and leave room in the loom for my fan controller wiring.
Thanks primetime!

RE: 3G Alt install question
The pages I have read just put some connectors on them and attatched them to the back of the alt. From the schematics that I have seen there is a wire that connects from them to the gauge.
