(Updated) Timing @ 24*!!!...Harmonic Balancer went out
I filled up w/ 87 and turned it down to 10* and it ranhorrible andbackfired. So Iput it back at 14* andyesterdayI ran the tank down near empty and filled up w/ 91 oct, still not the same. Somone on hear said I seemed to be at -10* retarded, he was right. I put timing at 16*(ran like ****), 18*(little better), 20*(good), and 24*(ran PERFECT). My timing light (Matco) has a short in wiring where it will shut off or blink inconsistantly, but I used ita month ago and it read correct. Its either the timing light which I don't think so or something is going out, but what are the chances that something would start going out the minute I fill up w/ 87. What could make my timing read incorrect?

Yea I thought that was a possibilty when you mention it, but wouldn't it vibrate or wobble where youcouldn't read it if was shot?

If thats the case I can get one in atleast a week. Do you know if replacement requires balancing? Now im wondering if the problem I havewith starting up and the idle dips to 500 and wants to die is related to this. Thanks Addermk

replacing it doesnt require balancing...i went to napa n got one..think it was like 70 bucks or something..its not that hard to change..i did it without an impact but with one its easier...
