Ignition Lock Cylinder

Ignition Lock Cylinder
Well, it's come time to replace my ignition lock cylinder. That black plastic piece on the outside spins freely, and if the key isn't in it, you can spin it all over the place, and if its not sitting just right makes the car think the car is in the ignition still, so im going to replace it.
I can't seem to figure out how to get the top trim piece off the steering wheel. it goes right behind the lock cylinder. I hope I don't have to take the steering wheel off, as I don't really want to risk messing up the airbag system.
There is one screw holding the bottom piece on in the back, that I may be able to get out to remove the bottom piece, but with it removed can I reach the retaining pin to remove the top AND the cylinder out together ? Anyone replaced one of these yet, or know exactly how to do it, and if it requires removing the steering wheel or not?
It's from a 1994 mustang gt 5spd manual.
If anyone can either give me a link with instructions and pictures, or just tell me how to do it, I would appreciate it.
Also, when I replace it, do I have to get the keys programmed to the car? Not sure if this uses a passlock system or not. I know the keys wont work on my doors anymore, but a slong as they work to start the car it's okay, as long as they don't have to be programmed.

RE: Ignition Lock Cylinder
on most cars there's a small hole on the bottom of the collum you put a small screwdriver in there and turn the key to "on" not "start" but once it's there, you should be able to feel around and feel a button with the screwdriver, push it and an pull the cyl out. and no you dont need a PATS key, nothing before 96 did, i dont have them on my 95, and my friend doesnt have them on his 94. so dont worry about that

yep, there's a empty hole in the bottom of the cover. Right under the ign switch, i've replaced them multiple times on 94 and up mustangs. just turn it to ON and then feel around with a screwdriver in the empty hole, one has a screw in it, thats not the one. once you find the button push it in and pull the cyl out. just have the new one there cause the cars gonna be in the on position, or just pull the batt cable to avoid draining it

RE: Ignition Lock Cylinder
if you've never done it before remove trim for easier access......if you have tilt unscrew the handle if it has such and remove all screws from underside= quick and easy...or just do what's mentioned above
