Default Adding stabilty to a drop top

What would be some of the best things to do to add stability to a drop top? Do roll bars alone help? I have modified cobra springs and i have broke 2 water pumps on speed bumbs so ride height is just about right.. hehehe Any suggestions?

There are several companies that make parts to stiffen up the frame on 79-93 mustangs. Kenny Brown, steeda, Maximum Motorsports, Saleen, Griggs, just to name a few. </P>

I would start with frame connectors. I'm running a pair from MM and I noticed a difference from the motorsport ones I had before. Plus the MM's have more surface area for welding them on. Kenny Brown makes a extreme bracing kit for the drop tops that you might be interested in. They also make street style roll cages that are pretty nice. They won't be legal at the race track but they will help to stiffen up the car considerably.</P>

Just a quick question, how do you break water pumps going over speed bumps on a 302?</P>

Engine hitting a speedbump? Anyhow subframe connectors and a strut tower brace will stiffen your right up.

Hey well i dont know about you guys.. but i think my car over heating and leaking water from teh water pump constitutes a broken one. It does seem odd but it is very real.. just ask my mechanic. It has happened twice where i was going over VERY large speed bumps and bang'd hard... after i parked my car.. there was a VERY large amount of water pouring out from where the thing that the belt goes on is conected to the stationary section of teh water pump.. I guess its magic if u dont believe me..<IMG src=smileys/smiley8.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>hot88drop50</editID><editDate>37917.5357407407</editDate></edited>

I'm not saying I dont believe you are having cooling problems. The way you worded the problem it sounded like you were hitting the speed bump with the water pump.

I don't see how unless you were hitting an accessory or bracket attatched to the waterpump (most all are on a 5.0), but I dont see one of those sitting lower than your oil pan, and if you hit that then I dont see how you can even get over a speedbump... just how low is your car by the way?</P>

Where is your pump breaking at? Just curious since I dont understand how it could have anything to do with going over a speedbump.</P>

I was baffled to but the proff is in the pudding so they say. Well to give some detials.. i have 17"x 9" cobra R speedware rims. when i bought it it had 225 30 17's in front and 245 45 17 in back.. lets just say that i have never seen an everyday driver stang as low as mine.. my front and rear wheels tuck into the fender about an 1-1/2"-2".. if i didnt have power steering i dont even think i could turn it without going at least 10 miles an hour. lol. Handles GR8 on the road at almost all speeds but the faster u go the more unstable almost any car gets. Almost everyone i know tells me "how the hell did u do that" when they see me at kragen getting a new WP again.. i just try to aviod speed bumps all together becasue the sound of scraping all the way back to my X-pipe makes me cringe. The pump isnt really breaking.. it just leaks very badly around where the pulley enters the pump itself. Looks very aggressive though so i put up with it.. i get compliments all the time and people with other 50's say damn.. your s**t is dumped bro!

Exactly how low (in inches) is "your s**t is dumped"?
