Default hesitation at heavy acceleration?

Hey guys during heavy acceleration my buddies stang hesitates pretty bad. It seems to lag and then kick in, but there is lil pinging and knockin in the motor. Its a 88 speed density 5.0 all stock. odometer says 90k, but prob 190k. Just wondering on what should be checked, and what major problems it could be? thanks

ping & knock well maybe your timing is too far advanced.

check fuel pressure while under load(gas pedal or throttle held down).

In this state , usually a bad fuel filter is the blame, but hurts the pump.

ok will do. thanks. It does the pinging usually while you get on the throttle to go up hill. Like at freeway speeds and then during a steep uphill you will punch it and it will just hesitate and ping like crazy

Your running lean for some reason. Clogged fuel filter, bad pump, clogged injectors??? just some ideas.

Ok. I will be changing the fuel filter and giving it a tune up and will see if it helps. I ran some seafoam through it yesterday. 1/2 through the intake and half in the tank. But there wasnt much smoke? And it feels fine while driving, but when you get on it it will ping like crazy...It sucks. Any other things I should do along with the tune up and fuel filter change?

pinging is not always and indication of running lean!!^^^^^^^ bad gas can cause it/ low octane fuel........try preminum and see if that cures pinging..if not pinging is a result of elevated cylinder temps often cause by a raise in compression which often occurs due to excessive carbon build up in cumbustion chambers and or on tops of pistons...an inoperative egr system can contribute to pingind as the egr is there to quench/lower cylinder chamber temps......a good induction clean/seafoam treatment can cure such if gas is not at fault
