Default Swapping engines?

This may be a stupid question but I really do want to know, so don't flame me too bad. :P

We have a 1996 Ford Econoline van that has a 5.8 L, V-8 Engine in it. We're taking it to the junkyard in 2 days. I was wondering if it would be possible (if money was not an issue) to put this engine into my 1994 Mustang GT. The Mustang currently has a 5.0L, V-8. Would this engine give me more power and, if it were to fit, roughly how much would it cost me to do it?

Also according to Ford, the Mustang's engine is rated at 215 HP, while the van's is only rated at 205-210. Is this rating based on the vehicle itself? The van obviously weighs much more than the Mustang, so I assumed putting a bigger engine in a smaller car would make it much faster.

yes it can be done..most ppl say about 1000 dollars unless your gunna fix up the 5.8 you need special headers oil pan and a few other things for a fox so im pretty sure you need them for a 1996 also. check in the 351 section there should be some sticikies up top that tell you what you need. most ppl swap the 5.8 in there b.c it has more potential then the 5.0 the 5.8 blocks are good till 6-700hp while the 5.0 about 500. also the other 49 cubic inches. its deff worth the money if you do it right. but like i said check in the 351 section there should be way more info on it. im in the middle of doing a 351 swap into my fox. as for the hp im not to sure i know one of the guys on here gained 2 seconds in the quarter after the swap

It is very possible and takes minimal effort really, oil pan, headers, dipstick, and if you are leaving it EFI you will need a lower intake. I think you have to modify the fuel rail to for the width. Then you will probably need a cowl hood. Some can get a 351 to fit under the stock hood but if can be hard to do. Keep the motor and set it aside and put some money into it. It will be a beast.

it's possible and will require a bunch of extra work but you might as well rebuild the engine while it's out and add goodies to it
