stall in reverse

stall in reverse
My 89 GT stalls every now and then when i put it into reverse even when the engines pretty warm.
If it doesnt stall, the rps will drop real low to about 400-500 then jump back up and be fine.
Any answers to this? Could broken tranny mounts cause it to shift too harshly in where it sits and cause something to go wrong?

RE: stall in reverse
In drive, once it gets hot the rpms jump around.
But when put into drive it just feels like a normal old AOD
In reverse it feels like the actual transmission is shifting in place and the whole car seems to sit differently once it engages
