i finished rebuilding my 302, and i have gotten it to start and it will idle fairly normal, but when i press the gas it starts to sputter and somtimes it will return to normal idle but most times it just dies. it will also backfire through the intake sometimes. ive already replaced the IAC, TPS, MAF, checked fuel pressure "40psi", adjusted idle air flow, checked TPS ".98v", ive set my timing to around 10 degrees, ive tried tuning with and without spout in. i am beyond help at this point.

the orange o2 sensor ground wire(rear driver side head-connected? )


timing may be 180 off- your possiblyigniting with an intake valve OPEN, thats not right[&:]

the orange o2 sensor ground? is that the one that looks like some type of female connection? and yeah i might haveto pull the intake off and recheck the rockers and valves.

just roll number 1 up on tdc and check to see where rotor on cap points...should be at no. 1 if not could be a few teeth off or 180 out

well i figured out the problem..well one of them anyway, C&L the manufacture of my MAF sent the wrong sampling tube, so i sent the whole thing back and ended up getting a 76mm opposed to the 73mm with the right sampling tube..but.. now there is a new problem, i think the fuel pump might be going out.. i was watching my fuel pressure while i was trying to drive and it dropped from 40 to 20 and remained as long as i was on the gas.. so im assuming that the fuel pump is going bad.. probably about time to replace it anyway its about 4 years old.. and its been sitting for 2 of those years.
