Fivepointohh you are going about it just fine..been there done that the route you are taking and I have been the expensive route too with aluminum heads.........some feel that the ole school wayof producing hp has to be equated with spending 8k+ on a motor = not true.......my friend spent 5800.00 on his last 302 set up in his 68 cougar and the motor in mine was nearly identically built to his ..he had a89 302 roller cam block with 92 h.0 pistons, f-cam, aluminum rpm heads, rpm air gap, msd ignition , roller rockers and 650 dp carb and 1 5/8's headers and c-4 and 3000 stall and 4.11 gears
my set up......74 302, h.0 rods reconditioned with light weight forged pistons, crane flat tappet cam .500/.500, roller rockers, c90e heads, rpm air gap, 650 dp, 1 5/8's headers, duraspark ignition, t-5 tranny, 3.50 gears
his best et 12.94 @ 104 on slicks
mine 13.3 @104 on street tires
when it was all said and done for machine work , gaskets and money spent on internals and heads the long block cost me 2355.00 to build..I assembled it of course....my friend spent 5800.00 on different name brand stuff ect ect.....proof that it's not always such the case of you get what you pay for!!..you just have to know how and where to spend the money....some are just unable to comprehend economical builds..here is the end result of looks and at the track proof!!!!!!!!!!

from a roll my friend in the 68 cougar not shown here we were dead even.. the only reason I ever lost was he had slicks and I have street tires on the 66

Yeah only trying to help man I love these cars something fierce, and by extension I want to help folks who use them

If your stock 19#/hr fuel injectors are undamaged, unclogged they could support I guess a bit under 300hp, here is a forumla but it is simplistic & assumes take with a grain of salt as they say.

Injectors Size x # of Injectors x Duty Cycle / Brake Specific Fuel Consumption = Maximum HP

19 x 8 x .9 / .45 = 305

Since we do not know the exact demands of your future engine, its your call.

Basically I recommend getting new or cleaned injectors (they have a tiny screen in the inlet so just using gasoline add cleaning solution might free up junk and clog that screen) you would take them off the car to get cleaned. If you plan on using the car a LOT you might think about getting new injectors and if you do you might as well upgrade to 24# or 30#

I say 30# because reading I remember reading a book specific to ECC IV I think it was that Ford EFI book by Charles Probst stated that if upgrading then 30# could still idle perfectly on a STOCK 5.0 H.O. becasue still small enough for proper resolution at low demand = small enough to not overdo it at lowest stock demands BUT will allow you room to grow in the future.

You are changing not only CR but chamber design and valves I should say that the sound of the engine will change.
