Well, it really depends on the specs of the motor, heads, intake and cam. With the basic info you have posted..."I" think you'll be fine with 1 5/8.

You would have to upgrade QUITE ABIT to justify the 1 3/4. As far as coatings...depends on how much driving you will be doing with it. I have run MAC's with their HTS coating (I think the HTS is overrated, wouldn't spend the extra $$ for it again). I have also run BBK chrome LT's on my 92 coupe. They were very nice and didn't discolor as much as I thought they would. The biggest problem with them is that they got HOT and stayed HOT for quite awhile.

I am now running ceramic coated LT's (they are coated on the outside as well as the inside). They are quite expensive, but will last a long time and look good for just as long. The thing, I really like about them is...they cool off quickly, allowing me to change plugs in between racing rounds without wearing my "Mechanix" gloves or burning the hell out of my hands.

BTW, I have also run stainless headers with no coatings. As a matter of fact, my wife has stainless LT's on her 06 GT. They look great, but they (like chrome) get hot and stay hot for awhile.
