Default limited slip differential

looking to upgrade my 89 lx to a posi rear end, i want to stick with the 28 spline that is on it, my only question is "is the car a sold axle? or is it two separate" just so i know if i need to buy new axles or not, and also what is a good middle of the road gear ratio i want something that will be quick off the line, but won't leave me redlining at 70mph... any suggestions, i was thinking around 3.7...?
