is there an eazy way to tell which one it is the reason im asking is because i was going to buy another motor from junkyard and the guy said it was an 351 but was missing the intake manifold but it looks just like the motor on my 92 is there a way i can tell

look at your 302 and from the water pump holes how short it is too the deck and then look at a 361 and there another inch or so taller.....

I think the "361" is 2 inches taller than a 302.

if the intake is off look for a xxx,yyy, lettering in the intake valley if it is in there it is most likely a 5.0 block the intake is wider on the 351 that the 302, like 3/4 in i think, also most 351 blocks are not roller blocks look to see itf the intake valley has or exepts a spiderarm setup for the dog bones for lifter retainment 302! a 351 timing cover also will have the dip stick coming out of it older models! that is all i can think of right now! oh you can tell by the harmonic balancer, a 351 has a 28oz and the 302 has a 50oz the thickness of the outer ring on the balancer will give that away to you!

Using the W/P ports as reference points.......302 on top, 351w bottom

so does a 289/302 on older models so that is not relevant......anyway just look at is width is fairly easy to determine if it's a 351 as well as the height
