Default Exterior Door Handle Help!!

I need to replace my exterior door handle on my 89. No big deal i'm sure but I'm not customed to anything outside of the engine so what tool and I going to need to replace it? Any help would be appriciated.

ratchet and socket... from what i've read, all you have to dois take off the door panel and you should see the 2 nuts holding the handle on..

thanks for help attempt but its not a bolt. It's a freakin rivet. Never dealt with them before so dunno how to get em out or put em on

ohh rivets... do you have a rivet gun to replace them with? as long as you have that i would think it should be a fairly easy swap

you have to drill out the center of the rivet. and then get the correct size gun to re-do the rivets with the ones that they gave you, they are big rivets so they are also a PITA have fun

Here's what ya' do...
1. remove inner door panel
2. unhook the linkage bar at the handle
3. drill out the old rivets
4. remove handle
5. put new handle in place
6.buy stainless steel, pan head, allen key,bolts and nuts from Lowes or Home Depot
(they should be about 1" long with a head about the size of the old rivet head)
7. Put it all back together and admire a job well done.

That's what I did... it's easy andit looks great!

i didthe bolt thing that way you never have to worry about the rivets again, and you can take off and put back on as many times as you want, then if you want paint the heads to the mactch color of the handle, its flawless

You can punch the rivets out instead of drilling.
