Angry EGR passageway in heads

does anyone know how i can find out if i have egr heads or not, i think my "former" machine shop gave me back a different set of heads on my motor, i know during reassembly i had to heli-coil a bolt hole for the alternator and power steering brackets, two holes were all the sudden bigger than they were before.....anyway i am having egr problems "code 84" that i cannot get to go away, i have tried everything, so maybe the machine shop f----d up and put a different set of heads that happened to not be egr heads on my motor ..............any feedback would be helpful

Code 84 has nothing to do with the cylinder heads. Code 84 = EVR solenoid circuit failure (usually open).....

you were missing the inserts that screw into the air injecton passage. there no egr ports in the heads, but air injection, pumps fresh air into the intake ports to help burn everything in the cats. the front of the heads are blocked off by an insert, threads on the outside and the inside(so you can screw a bolt into it). they arent really expensive at the dealer but last time i needed them it took my parts guy a while to find them on the computer.

the egr draws exhaust gases from the exhaust crossover ports in the heads..but as Joel5.0 states that has nothing to do with code 84

i have a brand new evr, and have swapped out two different egr......the problem is that when car is idling and you manually apply vaccum to egr, nothing happens

Assuming the valve is opening, if the engine doesn't stumble or stall = either no EGR port is present at the heads or it's blocked. Code 84 though, is a problem with the EVR circuit + it should not create any driveability, A/F or spark advance control problems....... the EEC deletes the EGR function automatically without affecting anything else.

if opening egr doesn't kill engine or make it run rough at idle, either passage ways are blocked or heads do not have exhaust crossover

Nope.... those ports are not for the EGR.

Code 84 has nothing to do with the EGR valve and EVP sensor..... code 84 is a problem with the EGR Valve Regulator (EVR) solenoid circuit. The fact that no change in rpms happen when you open the EGR valve, does need the EGR valve function to be deleted.... which you already have. And these codes should not be a cause for any other symptoms you might be trying to correct. LUK
